Huge swing in temperature intolerable and not adjustable.
Positive: Looks great. Loved seeing the day’s weather forecast. Liked seeing precise usage history on daily chart in the app. Nice UI and the dial feels precise. Such potential.
Negative: Swings in temperature were intolerable (intolerable in hot climate) with no way to narrow the temperature differential. Intolerable.
My experience: Set it to 76. At 77 (too hot) it finally turns on AC and runs for 15 minutes, brings temp all the way down to 75 (too cold). No activity for 40 minutes while the temp increases back to 77. Wish AC would go back on sooner before it hits 77, but no way to reduce the differential from 2 degrees to 1 degree. AC should cycle more often than once per hour. (My AC contractor confirmed this; it should cycle in hot weather about 3X per hour.)
This is a common complaint I wish I knew before I dropped big $ on this. I replaced with a thermostat with adjustable differential and we are much (much) more comfortable. Now the AC goes between 75.5 and 76.5, and cycles every 25 minutes instead of every hour. I sold my used Nest for half $ what I paid for it. That’s how much I disliked it. With all the exhibited sophistication, it would seem that Nest could fix this, but they don’t seem to listen to numerous user forums where this weakness is commonly called out. Perhaps discomfort saves energy, but taking that to its logical end, then why have any AC at all? Perhaps you live in a different climate and the large swing won’t bother you. Otherwise I recommend against it.
