One of our favorite movies
One of our family's favorite movies about a young chess genius whose dad wavers between helping his young son develop his gift and pushing him beyond his limits. The casting was perfect, but I especially liked Joan Allen as the mom, who tolerantly sat back and allowed others to steer her son until they pushed too hard. Then she turned into a mama-bear and resolutely protected her child. Add Ben Kingsley and Laurence Fishburne, and how can you go wrong? This story of ambition and redemption brings tears to my eyes every time.
