Easy-to-use diamond abrasive file
Bought this to 'keen-edge' gardening shears and secateurs which had become dull. Seems to do the job nicely and the diamond surfaces seem to be durable too

comfortable to handle diamond abrasive files
Used the product a couple of times to sharpen a pair of scissors and a pair of tweezers. The results were satisfactory. I have also used them on a broken ceramic item to prepare the two hard glazed surfaces for assembly with Standard Araldite adhesive. Again. the result was satisfactory.

Dopmestic Heating Circuit Motorised Valve
Something of an irony to this purchase.
The existing motorised valve of the same type had been playing up for quite some time, the symptoms being the pump and boiler continued to run after set 'off' times'. Having found a direct replacement on e-bay I ordered that to minimise hassle of installation.
On receipt, I realised I could just swap the motor/actuator assembly, thus, removal of the valve body (which appeared to be OK) was unnecessary, which was a relief because of difficult access. Once the new actuator was assembled onto the old valve body and then wired into the terminal box, the heating system functioned fine and has done so ever since.
Out of curiosity, I dismantled the old actuator but could find nothing wrong other than the main drive spindle appeared to have been slightly displaced (but why and how?). After a good clean and lubrication (with HT grease) of the actuator moving parts, I connected a 3-pin 13A plug to the mains wires of the flying lead, stuck that in a wall socket and the actuator/synchro-motor functioned normally. I also connected my multi-meter across the two control wires and the micro-switch in the actuator and although I suspected it may be that item at fault, the switch made and broke contact as one would expect of a properly functioning valve. I then assembled the actuator onto the unused new valve body and, as one should expect too, the vavle opens and closes as per normal. Of course, I have not tested the assembly under normal operating conditions of water flow/pressure/temperature, but it does seem I have now acquired a complete and functioning valve as a £39.00 spare part!
