    26 Jul, 2018
Highly recommended for the shelves of the well-listened.
Sophomore Black Sabbath from 1970 in this 3-CD collectors edition package isn’t just for hardcore Ozzie devotees. Paranoid continues to outline the formative years of the gods of heavy metal and within in are two of their biggest ever hits. Highly recommended for the shelves of the well-listened.

An exemplary product package circa 1978 because this one in particular has all its fine prints, legal clauses and boring stuff there, only totally obscured, microscopic, and low contrast. Absolutely works for Devo, in my honest opinion. Not sure about the vinyl version though as I am reviewing the CD release I recently purchased for my trove. Though content-wise, I’d pick other similar US acts any day. Sorry. Talking heads, B-52’s would be two examples off the top of my head. I only knew “Whip It” a few years later when it was just out. It was one of those numbers you’d have to jump to to get to the whole point of what it is, and to get to the rest of the experience. An experience of a teenage craze. For me it was tea dance. These escapades lasted a short while, maybe eight, nine months but was it all the rave. Near machine-like style drummer, the late Alan Myers, brothers Mothersbaugh and Casale all went on to be most successful albeit elsewhere in the industry in the ensuing years. Their career moves were exemplary too. RIP Alan and Bob. Most of all why five stars? It’s simply because I dig the graphics and overall yellow of the sleeve. It has certainly grabbed my attention. It’s so alive and vibrant. Not subtle, and not refined. New wave was after all not about that. This band, for 15 year-old me growing up in another world in was America’s answer to the trend then, their cute take on this genre. Capitalises yet another shift in music. You bet. It’s a wonder how I missed out on the whole album when it was new. I sure remember the sleeve cover though. Definitely not part of the cult following.
