Excellent speakers
1 of 5 found this helpful As a very happy owner of DM 603 S2 floor standers for 4 years, I have bought these DM 601 S3's for my bedroom. These are excellent speakers, producing a very rich and detailed sound for their size and price. The treble is detailed and rather 'tamed' compared to S2. The mid range is where they excel; vocals and instruments sound lively and realistic. Bass is punchy but isn't too strong or boomy. If you're coming from a 2.1 system you might think they're lacking bass. Just give your ears some time to get used to the sound and you'll most likely love it! They are much easier to drive than floor stander DM 603's so they sound good at low volumes too (I find DM 603's are too laid back at low volumes).I drive both of my B&W's with Arcam (A65+ and A75) amplifiers and love the way the pair, producing a warm, room filling sound. They do not lack of bass but don't produce bags of it either. If you're after more bass one option could be Nad amps as I've read they're stronger on the bass.
A couple of things to consider before buying is positioning and room size. Like many ported speakers the sound is very much position dependent. If you sit too close to the speakers trebles become overwhelming while the bass gets weak. Make sure to have a quick read on speaker positioning and try to place them at best. Also, although these sound great in a smallish room they could fall weak in a large living room. In that case you might want to consider DM 602 or 603's.
