2.13Ghz Core 2 Duo - still a solid performer in 2011
The E6420 is a budget chip and you can pick one up now for about £30 on ebay. If you have a Socket 775 board that supports Core 2 and a weak chip like a Pentium, Celeron, an E2xxx series or such like then you could do a lot worse than install this CPU.
It's a 65nm 1066Mhz FSB Conroe so it's compatible with all boards that support "Core 2 Duo" processors. More recent chips have a faster 1333Mhz FSB or 45nm design so are not compatible with older motherboards even though they are also branded as "Core 2 Duo" so watch out!
4MB of cache, 2MB per core means that it makes light work of demanding games and applications.
The stock 2.13Ghz clock speed is adequate for pretty much anything, even modern games, but you can overclock this guy pretty easily up to 3Ghz with a reasonably good air cooler if that's your thing. Or if you leave it stock it's a very chilled out CPU, even on the Intel default cooler at full load it tops out at 60 degrees.
Intel changed the game with the Conroe Core 2 Duo and it's pretty amazing that a mid-range desktop CPU from 2007 is still perfectly good to use nearly 4 years later.

Good cheap keyboard
This thing looks out of date, it’s massive, covered in ugly buttons and really old skool styling. However it’s solid, great to type on, extremely quiet in operation and allows me to type at full speed, because this is the style of keyboard I learned to touch type on.
