"Christmas Portrait" and "An Old Fashioned Christmas". Karen's voice is AMAZING!
Karen Carpenter's voice amazed me anew on these Christmas songs. She is inch-perfect and really does sound like "one of the greatest voices of our lifetime" as Elton John put it. She is heard at her very best on more than half of this collection. The "Lead Sister's" full 3 octaves of range and her rich timbre make you realise at once that her instantly recognisable voice is perfect for these mostly instantly recognisable and well-loved Christmas songs. Karen isn't on every song in this collection, but the songs without her do have classic Richard Carpenter arrangements and there's an outstanding Carpenters-like chorus section. Richard clearly relished doing these songs with a lush full orchestra, and at times he manages to inject some fun and interest into these old favourites.

Engelbert in fine form, at his best!
Although some tracks are filler - they will not be known to you, this is priceless because Engelbert also does his hits, and when he does them they are absolutely superb! He has excellent backing singers and the hits sound just as they should. All round, this is excellent.

A Well Kept Secret, How Good The Two 'Bonus' Concerts Are!
Anyone I know who I have shown the two 'bonus' concerts to, has been amazed at just how good they are. As both the film and the two bonus concerts are widescreen, and have been nicely remastered, they stand up very well today. Marc of course, is very engaging. I particularly enjoy his stunning on-stage charisma as he performs all his finest songs in the concerts. The multiple cameras stay with Marc (as they should) virtually all the way through. Of course this is supposed to be about 'Born To Boogie' the film, but personally, other than the studio based songs in the film (with Elton John included) and snippets from the two concerts - which they have included in their entirety as a bonus, the film, I felt, did seem a bit dated. I don't mean to knock the film, but compared with the two concerts, to me it felt a bit slight, and over-trite, viewed today. However, with the two one-hour concerts of T Rex at their best included, I feel I have more than my money's worth.
