Great item but something you need to know - Please read.
3 of 3 found this helpful As with previous reviews, this little tracker works just fine. Its too cold for me to be tearing the car apart to hide it properly so thats a job for another day. At the moment its just lying in the boot. Lets hope the crooks dont look in there for a while. HOWEVER, there is an issue that maybe others have not discovered yet.
I fitted a 1p Mobile simcard thinking the cost per track would be 1p. When I checked the usage on the simcard it turns out that each text position is actually using 3 text messages. Perplexed, I asked the technical people at 1p Mobile for an explanation. This is their reply "I can confirm 07486XXXXXX has a max message length of 140 characters enabled rather than 160, and the device has UNICODE or similar non-standard character set enabled. It is not specifically designed for the European market. (140 is common in the USA and Far East).
The messages being sent from the device are 304 characters in length and therefore the message centre are sending these as concatenated messages as per design. (140 + 140 + 24)" Hence the 3p per reply cost.
Now this is not an issue for me - 3p a track is still cheap but if the sim you are using has a say 10p per text message tariff then its 30p a track not 10p. Some people are using Giffgaff so its 3 x 5p. Like I say its not an issue for me but worth knowing.
