Just what the Doctor ordered
I've been a Dr Rhythm fan since the very first models appeared in the 80's, and I've owned several models. The DR660 is, in my opinion, the best Dr Rhythm by some way. Although it shares some of its samples with other models, and lacks some of the additional features of later versions (most notably the bass capability of the 670) for my money it's the most intuitive to use, has the most logical workload, and has all the features you need and then some. And then there are the sounds. So many kits that you have everything you'll ever need. Why buy an 808 clone, a 909 clone, and a 606 clone when the DR-660 has all those sounds already sampled? I can sound ultra "drum-machiney" fir your techno tracks but also sound very realistic for rock, blues, or jazz. It slso has specific kits for hip-hop, dance, reggae, and many more. Oh, plus two sets of bass samples. Anyone can pick it up and play it like a drum kit straight away, and it takes moments to crack writing patterns. On top of all this it has a neat trick up its sleeve that lots of similar machines don't have. That is, in addition to the stereo outputs it can also send two sounds to individual outputs. This means you can go crazy fattening up you kick drums but still be able to have a crisp and toppy snare, while still having a nice compressed and soread stereo mix for everything else. I love mine. I love it so much that I've bought a second one. And now I link them via midi, duplicate the patterns on both, then split the sounds between the two machines to give me 8 outputs. That gives you the kind of flexibility of a Drumbrute but with the vast library of sounds that only the Doctor can provide. If a third one comes up at the right price I'll snap it up. You can never have too many DR-660's. Just what the doctor ordered.
