Good Sound, Great Performances

This 4 disc live anthology captures the quartet and quintet lineups of Weather Report during the 1978-1980 tours (Zawinul, Shorter, Pastorius, Erskine + Thomas Jr.) The set includes live versions of the entire Night Passage album and the studio tracks from 8:30. Two Pastorius solos and the 21-minute Gibraltar are worth the price of admission alone. The sound quality is surprisingly good for previously unknown recordings, ranging from very good to excellent. Detailed liner notes from Peter Erskine describe the origins of the recordings. The only issue with the set is the flimsy packaging. Overall, a great set and a necessary addition to any Weather Report fan's collection
