Free McBoot exploit and fun by itself too!
6 of 6 found this helpful I bought this game primarily for the ability to run Ulaunch.elf and install Free McBoot to my memory card to play DVD+R game backups. And it works perfectly. BTW, I had received the "Greatest Hits" version and it still worked fine for my Fat console, and I think there is no difference at all between the versions besides aesthetics.
You see, in order to install free McBoot you need to either have a Mod-chip, or have AR Max/ Gameshark/ Codebreaker/ or this usb memorycard. I didn't have any of them. So I searched everywhere (including eBay) for them, and found out that they are still pretty expensive. At least $20 if you're lucky.
So then I learned about the game-swap trick. I tried it with a few of my games that I had already owned and none of them worked (replaced a .elf file in the game disc image). You see, different games work with different systems and also there's different timing issues (when you swap) that effect the success of the exploit. I learned that this game, agent under fire, was guaranteed to work in all systems all of the time. So sure enough, I opted for this option. And let me tell you it's worth it. Let me make this statement now, April 2011, (hear that Googlebots?) "Agent Under Fire is the cheapest, most inexpensive method to install Free McBoot." I got mine for $2 shipped.
To install the memory card exploit, follow the game swap method guide in the FreeMcBoot official website. (use the "noobie package" for the files you put on your flashdrive)
AS FOR MY REVIEW OF THE GAME ITSELF.
It's really fun. Sorry I suck at reviewing.
At first, you may get thrown off because the analog stick controls are set up in legacy-style. Meaning strafe left and right and move forward and backwards are on separate sticks. You can change it in the controller settings to the standard fps controls.
The missions are fun, varied, and reasonably lengthy. There is a points system which unlocks golden guns and other features in multi-player, which gives good replay incentive. The weapons are cool, modern, and fun. A great variety offers an impressive gameplay mechanic.
The multiplayer, fun as always. True to the series, but in this day seems a little dated. Then again, what isn't by now.
Overall, I would recommend it for anyone looking for a fun retro game. But more importantly, I would definitely recommend it for someone looking for a method to install Free McBoot. That to me is the biggest reason to get this game.
