Late Medieval Literature
I bought this book recently and made the mistake of thinking that I would just dip into it and read a piece at a time. It hasn't worked out like that! I pick up the book thinking I'll read for half an hour or so and get so engrossed that, sometimes, it's morning before I put the book down again. There is a good variety of items - comic verse, serious verse, riddles, travel writing, religious writing, fables. There is a brief introduction to each section and a good glossary at the back. There are also notes on the grammar and spelling of the period. I have found that some words still in use now have a quite different meaning so, if I'm not sure of the sense of what I'm reading, I check with the notes and the glossary. I have not yet tackled the Scots poetry nor the longer poems. There is a small section of recipes, some for food, a couple of which I would like to try out, and some odd ones for killing lice, treating a broken skull, stopping bleeding, for toothache, interesting but probably not a good idea to try! In the section on education there is a lovely piece for travellers in France with English on one side and the corresponding French on the other side. There is asking directions, getting lodging and food for self and horse, paying the bill. As the bill came to 8 shillings, I think he must have been travelling with a friend. Each question that the traveller asks has a suitable reply. The piece reminded me of some of the questions and answers when I was learning French at school and the sentences were rather more useful than the old 'my postilion has been struck by lightning' or 'la plume de ma tante'! I am thoroughly enjoying this book and would recommend it to anyone who is interested in the development of English literature and the English language and doesn't mind putting in a bit of effort.

Dentemp Dental Repair Kit.

Renew your cheap jewellery
I bought this as I have a lot of cheap jewellery that was sold as silver but wasn't. So far, I have re-plated the fitting on a pendant and two large rings. As the items had stones set in, I used cotton buds to apply the solution. The pendant was the first thing I tried and I will have to re-do it but the rings came out really well and look like new. I used a polishing cloth with anti-tarnish after following the instructions on the bottle of solution. I still have some earrings, a couple of rings and a pendant and chain to do before I start on a pastry fork and spoon that I bought years ago and had to stop using because so much of the silver plate had worn away. So far, I am really pleased with this product and have already recommended it to an old friend. I found it quite soothing making my costume jewellery look good again. The packaging says it is food safety so I'll have no qualms using it on cutlery. The company I bought it from provided excellent service; I ordered it in the evening and it arrived the next morning. I shall definitely use both the company and the product again.
