Trusty workhorse lasted 11 years. Good print quality, fast printing.
I bought my original Canon i860 back in 2004 when my laser printer gave out and I needed a printer fast until I could research--and stand to pay for--a color laser printer. It was a good deal at $99 after a $30 rebate. It lasted until a couple months ago--11 years. For an inkjet printer, the print quality is excellent. I don't print many photos, but the quality of those I have printed has been good to excellent. And it prints very quickly. It uses 5 individual ink tanks, so it's more cost effective than printers that use combined color ink tanks. The inks last a long time for me. I've used only genuine Canon inks.

Since buying the Canon, I've bought an Epson Stylus Photo 1400 wide-format printer, with which I've been disappointed. The Canon prints twice as fast, and has much better text print quality than the Epson. (I've never printed photos on the Epson.) It seems like the Epson inks run out faster. And I like that Canon ink tanks are translucent, so you can see the actual ink level, unlike those for the Epson, which are opaque. So you have little warning with the Epson that the ink truly is about to run out. But the Epson is good for printing wide documents and is capable of printing on CDs and DVDs.

We needed another printer to be convenient to the kitchen, so I bought a Canon mx860, partly because it was such a good deal at the time, but also because I trusted Canon after my experience with the Canon i860--fast printing, good quality, individual ink tanks.

The biggest drawback to the Canon is that the ink runs on documents that get the slightest bit wet. The Epson was supposed to have water-resistant ink, but it isn't much better. So I finally broke down and bought an HP Color LaserJet CP2025dn for important documents. But I continued to use the i860 for drafts and less important documents so as not to use too much toner. The cost of 4 toner cartridges is more than the cost of a new printer! I've since bought refill toner far cheaper, which has worked out well, so I'm using the laser printer more. I do like the HP a lot.

The reason I bought another one of these Canons is so I can print from my very old Mac. The newer printers I have don't seem to have printer drivers for OS9. I'm hoping I can cross-fit parts from the two printers and get one working unit.

No Mo Batteries
My P-Touch eats batteries. This adapter is fantastic! Works great. No more batteries.
