Great starting point for x64-bit OS, good value for money on LGA775 socket
I recently upgraded my chip from the e2200 core 2 duo 2.20 GHz to this e8500 core 2 duo 3.16 GHz and i would say this i a great upgrade for me as i have taken a big jump from my old chip. i believe you should upgrade if it accomplishes what you are trying to achieve for the purpose for what it is for.
If you are looking for something similar with hyper threading (HT) & memory stepping go for the next processor witch is at the very top of the core2 duo list presenting the e8600 core2 3.33GHZ with flawless operation where the e8500 without (HT) does give a split second lag of 2 with larger processes or multiple processes. but overall my pc is much faster than before which was taking ages to boot up,logon and then had to think about processing stuff and all i did was upgrade my processor.
This processor gives a base score of 6.7 on win7 x64 pro
so overall i would say this processor is a good starting point for computers these days with more multiple processes being handled.

😱 AMAZING! 😱
Wow! I like how the hdds are behind the MB and considering flash drives are used more than dvd’s these pdays not as many drive bays are needed anymore.
Very robust and push panel air filters keep things easy for cleaning
Can finally downsize my gaming Cooler-Master S Case that is like the size of a dolls house without loosing airflow considering hdd’s are just as efficient nowadays on a smaller scale.
