Avengerless...
I had the displeasure of seeing The Avengers in the cinema back in 1998. The film itself is horrific. Ralph Fiennes and Uma Thurman are both miscast as John Steed and his trusty side kick Emma Peel. The story is absolutely lacklustre with very little depth or genuine warmth, and the direction in this film is flat and doesn't even try to be creative. Instead you have both main actors, Fiennes and Thurman playing the characters like wooden planks. Connery is totally over the top as de Wynter, that puts a panto dame to total and utter shame. The only redeeming features of this film are the Production Design by British set designer extraordinaire Stuart Craig, the location work with stunning English settings and Joel McNeely's fast paced film score. As for the rest of the film, The Avengers (1998) deserves to be forgotten by those who remember what The Avengers use to be like on British TV. Best avoided.

Investigations with Dagliesh
1 of 1 found this helpful One of the most engaging and brilliantly acted British detective series from the 1980's and late 1990's. P.D. James' novels are vividly brought to life by excellent adaptations and superb acting by veteran British actor Roy Marsden. If you do buy this series, go for the complete box set released by Network DVD. All the episodes are fully uncut for the first time and well worth a watch. British TV at it's absolute best. There's nothing like this today on British TV.

DVD had some surface grime, so had to clean off the disc. Overall, I would say 'good', not very good.
