The Perfect Collection of Lullabyes
I received this as a shower gift and my daugter and I loved it. All of the songs are very sweet and calming. Even the most tone-deaf parent can sound wonderful when singing their child to sleep with each and every song. A friend of mine "borrowed" it ... 3 years ago and I haven't seen it since. I'm buying this one for my 2 month old son. I know he's going to love it, too!

Not Patterson's Best ...
I am a huge Patterson fan and love most of his books. This is not one of them. Although it maintains the pageturner appeal and I did like the book, there were parts of the story that were just too extreme, too complicated, and a little over-the-top. Our favorite detective, Alex Cross, finds himself engulfed in capturing one of the most horrific serial killer(s) he has ever come across. It takes him across the Atlantic to Africa where he uncovers issues that become a little overwhelming and becomes a story of its own. There are many angles in his manhunt, but only after a few chapters, you get the feeling that something isn't quite right about some of the key players and you can start to sense where the story might end relatively early on. It took a lot of self control to not read the last chapter to see if my predictions were correct. But this Pattersonesque easy-read helped me through to the end in 6 hours ... only to validate what I had already predicted. I was a little disappointed how some murders weren't clearly tied together. Patterson usually offers logical rationales of how and why his psychopaths commited thier crimes, but only a few make sense in the end. I would probably have to read the book again in order to find out why the others happened, but I think I'd rather pass and wait for Patterson's next novel. He cleverly eludes to the idea that we'll be seeing one of his favorite nemesis again.

Fast Pace, Quick Read, Hard to Put Down
This was my first James Patterson and my first book of the summer. With two little ones at home, I gave myself a week to finish it. Because of the quick draw-in and fast-paced storyline throughout, the book was read in one afternoon. I just couldn't put it down. Ned Kelly is a character who, quite possibly, has the worst luck in the world. Despite the continuous mess he gets himself into, you will consistently hope that things will turn out okay for him. Patterson keeps you wondering, hoping, and doubting throughout the book. Right when you think you have everything figured out, here comes a little twist that leaves you with more questions and even more doubt. The ending (before the epilogue) will surprise you, but it comes with a little bit of confusion. I had to re-read a couple of chapters to piece everything together - so make sure that you take your time with the last 40-50 pages. I will be starting my next Patterson book next week. I hope that it's just as good as this one, but LIFEGUARD will be a tough act to follow.
