Good film, shame about...

.. the lousy sound quality and lack of English subtitles. It is an old film but we had to have the TV volume up to an outrageously high setting to be able to hear any dialogue and background sound at all - and we still missed some dialogue. It's not our hearing being deficient - normal TV programmes watched at the volume setting we played the dvd would have eardrums burst and plaster shattering off the walls! The film itself was a pretty good one, an account of Burton and Speke's expeditions to find the source of the Nile and their many problems along the way. Scenery of Africa and Zanzibar was glorious. Glad I've seen it, pity the dvd was so relatively expensive due to being out of circulation (and we've not been able to find it in a charity shop). We were very keen to see it as it had been recommended as an historically accurate film and we'd just returned from holiday in Africa and Zanzibar - I would not recommend paying some of the outrageously high prices being asked for this dvd.... I don't think it's worth the £50 or £60 being charged by some vendors on Amazon unless money is no object and you are absolutely desperate to see it.

Excellent, appealing book.

Excellent items using plants from the garden (not exotic, unobtainable varieties) for things you actually want to make. Clear instructions. Lovely photography, appealing layout and typesetting. I bought one as a gift for a friend but decided I needed one for me.
