The rights of the states had meaning and northern states actually considered secession prior to 1861. The War of 1812 was not unanimously supported and states refused to send troops. Consider the secession of the states comprising the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR). Thank God that Gorbachov did not wage a "civil war" over this event. Slavery was ending in the mid-19th century and the United States was the only country that allegedly "fought a war" over the issue. The gathering of Anmerican central government power has culminated into a force that nearly erases everything vested in the states except the names on the map. DiLorenzo will provoke thought and may cause you to check "facts." You'll feel unsettled and test current events, the economy and the American role of international policeman.
