I love these cars, but they are getting old so buy one with a service record
This was a pup unfortunately. Maintained on a shoestring, it immediately needed four new tyres and a rear exhaust box. For its second MOT it has needed a new steering arm, shock absorbers, trackrod...then earlier in the year a front spring broke and punctured the front tyre. Thank God it didn't happen at speed. Every nice little extra no longer works: heated seats? No. Rear window demister? NO, Aircon fan setting? No. Front fog lights? Of course not. Central locking? Um...not always. Last month the brakes failed. Now I am told it needs all the brake pipes replacing... My advice: get one that has been maintained and pampered without regard to cost. They are lovely cars to drive (although a Turbo would be my choice) and have a lovely gentlemanly olde worlde charm. Over 35000 miles it has been supremely comfortable and cheap to fuel as I had it converted to LPG. Yes, I would buy another, but be more careful next time. However the wife won't let me.
