The remake that was'nt
I liked the idea of a modern re-make of "The Bishops Wife". Whilst the movie is very watchable, it was no comparison to the Cary Grant/David Niven black & white original. The original had more character and depth. I am a big fan of Denzel Washington, but even he couldnt drag this modern re-make above avarage status.
For a real treat get the original "The Bishops Wife".
Other classic movies which would probaly not benefit from a modern re-make:
The cruel Sea, Zulu, North by Northwest, A Christmas Story.
These were masterpieces and Directors should be well advised to find something new and not try to steal the original limelight from such classic pieces of movie history. "Miracle on 34th Street", however, was very good (both original and modern versions) but this, to date, is the exception to the rule.

Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens
I needed a general purpose lens, capable of Landscape and general imaging.
Price was a constraint. I noted Canon make a number of lens's which are well outside my price range, and examined a number of reviews on the internet.
I decided to take a chance on the Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens. It was not without some critical reviews on the web, but I believe Canon optics to be very capable of holding there own. I also believe a good photograph is the result of a partnership between the Photographer and the constraints of his equipment. As a General purpose lens, this one does well on most requirements. Images are Pin-sharp, typical of Canons modern lens's. I would be happy to recommend this optic as part of a collection of other lens's. It cant do everything, but that said, its very useable in the areas I require it to be.
I am not a huge fan of the plastic casings offered by Canon on lens's in this price range, but the mechanics of it are up to the mark and the optics are very good. It wont make a bad Photographer a better one, but if you use this lens as a reliable and capable general purpose lens, it does what it says on the tin.
