Great and easy to use reference book.
I have used this book extensively to identify British blue and white transfer printed pottery. In the early days of transfer printing in the late eighteenth century, major manufacturers did not always mark their wares then. It is the pattern and border that are the only means of identifying the manufacturer and the date. The book contains an illustrated catalogue of patterns, organised alphabetically by subject. Each pattern is illustrated and captioned with information on pattern, series, and border names, maker, date, colours, plus any additional information such as rarity and shape. Included are ways of dating and identifying by plate edges and stilt marks. An alphabetical list of factories is also provided, highlighting essential makers and key periods of production.

A reference of Rockingham and Brameld Ceramics
A comprehensive and well illustrated account of the Rockingham Pottery, one of England’s major nineteenth century porcelain manufactories. The photographic illustrations of Rockingham porcelains in this book are of superb quality. Written primarily with collectors in mind, this book will appeal to a much wider readership; researchers in ceramics, librarians, saleroom and museum staff. The tea and dessert services, including those made for British royalty and nobility, are described and beautifully illustrated and also included are figurines and many ornamental items. I like the presentation of all known factory marks are shown and that guidance is given to help collectors avoid spurious wares. This book, with its many new findings and previously unpublished documentary material, provides an indispensable guide to this pottery’s remarkable and diverse products. In my opinion the definitive reference book on Rockingham ceramics.
