infectious disease history from 1945-94
A terrifying and illuminating book. Published in 1994, its contents are of even greater relevance today. Well written with much human interest amongst the facts and statistics. So much fascinating detail is included which will keep even the knowledgeable interested. For example did you know; early heroin addicts in New York suffered so much with malaria from sharing needles that the dealers started mixing quinine into the drugs? That e-coli was harmless except in babies until it gained antibiotic resistance? That CDC doctors sick with new diseases were evacuated in old nasa space capsules inside hercules air transports?
