Be Careful ! Great Knife
The Victorinox 8" Chef's knife is a great knife for every kitchen whether you are a chef or not because it balances between great value and great edge for the price. But be careful a lot of amateur chefs like myself are not used to the sharpness right out of the package! I bought my first one two years ago in 2016 and cut my finger severely just removing the knife from the packaging! So yes handle this knife with care the moment you buy it. In 2016 I paid around $25 for this knife and since then word has traveled around a bit and now that same knife costs around $45 from the manufacturer. But it's worth it. The knife holds its edge like no other. It has a superior design. and at $45 its still a bargain I just bought a brand new knife and gave my sister my old one. I tested my old knife against the new one I just bought on eBay. The old one is almost as sharp as the brand new one and there is no reason why this knife will not preform the same way for you as long as you handle it with care and store it properly. Along with this knife I bought a knife magnet I store it on the wall when I am not using it. I am 57 years old now but when i was young I worked in restaurants and kitchens first as a dishwasher then pot washer. Through promotion to prep cook and line cook I was in charge of the grill cooking steaks but I never made it to chef though. I know the value of a good knife and how expensive they can be. In fact the chefs I worked with always took theirs home at night because they were that valuable. A good knife is the chef's best tool and you can spend thousands on a great chef's knife this knife has the power to cut through a chicken and be your best tool in the kitchen. I believe if you buy it maintain it and respect its power you'll grow to love yours as I do mine!
