A Very Enjoyable Project
Definitely not for those without good electrical knowledge /safety awareness - but I have had such a lot of enjoyment from building this. The instructions (which you obtain on line) are largely pictoral, but part of the fun was working it all out. The kit itself appears to be good quality, very nice PCBs and decent power and output transformers. Metalwork on the case is very good too. Capacitors supplied were well known brands, hopefully genuine, they certainly measured well on my tester. Every part was present - nothing missing or wrong at all, which was a most pleasant surprise. Other than a small error on my part, the assembled item worked first time, sounds and looks pretty good. I definitely don't regret buying this for the fun and experience I have had constructing it.

Excellent replacement lamps
Replaced an entire string of 20 with these. Colours are excellent, and they don't burn too fiercely so I anticipate that they will last well. They have the filament mounted along the same axis as the bulb itself rather than across; from past experience this seems to be more reliable, as the filament can't twist round on itself and short some of the turns. (this is a problem in series strings as the other bulbs will run hotter and fail sooner, whereas the one with shorted turns will be dimmer and last for ages, thus continuing to stress the other bulbs)

Does The Job Well
This does actually seem to work. A quick pass over the disc removes dust effectively and doesn't add to the static build-up. Have not attempted to wash it yet, so can't comment on whether it preserves its tackiness, but so far it is doing what it claimed.
