Wonderful introduction to board games
When my children, now in their 30's, were just out of toddlerhood, Race to the Roof was one of the first board games they played. On rainy days, or in the evenings after supper, the family would all gather for game time. Race to the Roof was a favorite. The game is easy to learn, and is devised in such a way as to make the board ever-changing. Rooms vary with each playing. With their brains full of fresh cells, the children quickly became more adept at finding the hidden objects than their parents. There is an element of chance in this game - you have to roll a "6" to draw from the pile of cards denoting hidden objects; as you get close to the finish line on the roof, rolling a "6" becomes a negative roll (whereas, early on in the game, you long to roll a 6). The game isn't interminable, and it was rare that we played just a single game - more often than not, we'd play at least 3 games in a given session. Our children loved it, and even now remember it fondly. Now that I have a grandchild, I'm collecting games that passed the test for fun, interest, and (yes) a little bit of skill and learning. Ravensburger games consistently meet all those criteria. Sadly, some of them are no longer manufactured, so I comb the online auction houses, in hopes of putting together an excellent collection of games that are entertaining to both children and their parents.

Good for educational purposes.
Nice assortment of native wildlife species. Excellent for end-of-the-year treats.

Beautiful tumbled stones - good sizes.
Needed some pretty polished stones for end-of-the-school-year goody bags for our student treasure hunt. These really fit the bill. The children who were lucky enough to get a blue lace agate stone in their treasure bag were thrilled. Really pretty and the size was big enough so that the children felt they'd received a true treasure.
