A good read if one likes true crime.
The book is excellant and as a true crime fanatic it was recommended by others. The case caused such a stir in Canada in the early 90's that media coverage was almost banned to avoid and problems. This book is rare to find in the UK and was imported from the USA. This is available in paperback and hardcover copies and mine was the paperback version. The writing is a bit biased against Paul Barnardo and tries to give the Karla Homalka version as a battered wife doing all she can to keep her man happy or else she will get a beating more justice than is thought by the masses. Whilst this may be the case ( I am not an expert) the general opinion in Canada is that they were both will parties in the crime and theerfore should have both served the correct time for the crime. The book shows the travesty of justice in the Canadian and American law system in relation to plea bargaining. My copy whilst in reasonable condition and is readable was actually sold as good but the spine shows that it was well read so should really have been classed as fair. As I did not pay a great amount for it I accepted this. So if you are interested in true crime and to be honest you have a strong stomach as some of the text is a bit graphic this is the one for you.

"Grilled" this should be meat served without any laughs
Bought this movie as I am a fan of Ray Romano of "Everybody Loves Raymond" fame and also Kevin James of "The King of Queens". To be honest I may have been expecting a bit more jokes and amusement like the shows but this was a real disapointment. The story is about two door to door salesmen trying to sell meat to customers and the refrigerators that they need to keep the vast amounts of meat in. They are going through a bad patch and are desperate for a sale and therefore the lengths they take to get the sales. The plot is poor the acting would have been OK if the material was any good and the film even made another star of the film Burt Reynolds look as wooden as his face lift. I could count on one hand the laughs I had watching the film and usually laugh easily at comedy films. So if you are looking for a film with these two great funny men at their best please look elsewhere as I feel you will be very disapointed with "Grilled".

Pam Ayres. One of our best modern poets A1
Now if you are like me old enough to remember Oportunity Knocks and the performers it started on their careers you will know of Pam Ayres. I was only about 10 at the time she won but I was given a couple of CD's of Pams poems and found they well written and very very funny. The Dvd is filmed at one of her concerts and unlike the big names of today such as Ricky Gervais and Lee Evens she sems to be playing at a local theatre and the stage and the audience seem to be very close and as if she was in their front room having a chat. The show was excellant in terms of poems and the laughs that she gave and she shows that she is one of our great poet's and the work she produces is top knotch. Now the bad point and their is only one and that is that she does seem to annoy the viewer for some reason. I cannot quite put my finger on it why but at some times I was feeling a little annoyed, at what I do not know but I was if that makes some sense. Perhaps it was her mannerisms or voice I do not know but I enjoyed the poems and stories and as I enjoyed her CD's before the show perhaps this may be a better format to enjoy her at her best. So all in all the standard of show was excellant the material was excellant so if you are a Pam Ayres fan I am sure that you will enjoy it immensely as I beleive that she is a British Institution and we should all be so proud of her. Also she does not look 60 at all.
