Another trustworth Spinpoint drive from Samsung
I have used Samsung Spinpoint hard drives for several years now and would be a preference over some other branded models.
The major talking points are the noise reduction of the drive, build quality and value for money.
The Spinpoint has always been a quiet drive, from my first 80gig to this latest 640gig device. They go hardly noticed at 5400RPM and any sign of noise is usually a sign that the device has taken a knock and could fail eventually. I have had one drive do this so far and it took over a year for the drive to finally give up with others lasting for many years. The newer drives that spin at 7200RPM are a little noisier so speed and performance have to be balanced with more noise.
The build quality is superior to other brands at the same price. I always shake a new drive to listen for any errant noises and never hear a thing with a new Spinpoint. Compare it to a Hitatchi made in Thailand and it's a different story. You can get a very fair amount of usage out of a Samsung, the 640gig I have is used purely as a back-up device so gets moved around a lot and plugged in and out of my PC at random. Once formated I got just under 600gig of space available for the files I have to secure and it is working well and has yet to show any signs slowing down. It can access data almost as fast as my PC's internal drive and moving data occurs at about 30Mb a second across USB2.0.
Samsung Spinpoints are priced just right. The 640gig cost me £41 new and I could only find a Hitachi that was cheaper.
I view Samsung Spinpint drives as products that can be trusted to fit my budget and exceed my expectations with their long life spans and durability.

Bought 4 of these to install on the unde...
Bought 4 of these to install on the underside of a chunky shelf and they work so well. Really impressed with the warm white light.

Immaculate laptop however the profession...
Immaculate laptop however the professionaly stenciled keyboard is not nice at all and makes it improbable to use if you like a backlit keyboard.
Support was amazing though
