Good but not as good as Scotland Street and Scones?
Written with McCall Smith's wonderful, dry, witty and intelligent humour, this is the 2nd book in the series. The first, '44 Scotland Street', was delightfully entertaining, and 'The Lightness of Scones' equally so. Espresso is perhaps a little less enthralling but a very good read nonetheless. Six-year-old Bertie is on top form with his precociousness and set to rule the world - or become a successor to Machiavelli if his ghastly mother pushes him any further! If you consider yourself a Tiger Mother or just drag your offspring to every possible 'enriching' activity, you might not find this book remotely funny.
This series has the affectionate social observation of Jane Austen, and the sharp character analysis of the Writer's legal mind. Personally, this series has provided by favourite books of recent times. I recommend them without reservation to anyone who enjoys intelligent, well-written prose that is light but not simplistic.

Relaxing
Bought this to deal with muscle spasms in my back related to prolapsed disc. It means I can reach those areas I wouldn't be able to without paying a professional masseur to do the job! It is great for softening tense shoulder muscles after a session at the computer or gardening. It was much cheaper than the same product being sold on retail websites. Very pleased all round.

Great nostalgia
I bought this as a present for my 92 year old father who had spent most of his life in Cardiff. Seeing the city as it used to be put a smile on his face and exercised his memory. There is some interesting historical footage and this is fascinating for anyone who has lived in the city, or still does, and wants to see it before the big changes with the Millenium Stadium, the Bay area, etc. Would recommend it unreservedly.
