MY PROFILE:
Well, I got married, had a kid and eventually was told / realised that my 'possibly a little too expensive' hobby, as a serious amateur book collector, that amassed more than a thousand collectable books over more than 20 years required some serious culling.... Especially since my collection now also contains a signed Harper Lee with drawings of Spider Man, The Hulk and some supervillain apparently called Red Scull (which may or may not be an actual Stan Lee creation).
Ps.. if anyone is interested in it, let me know.. it is such a limited edition, that there is in fact only one Harper Lee novel with replica Stan Lee illustrations in existence.
Alas, I've have decided (been told) to limit my collection to only items close to my heart or the few very valuable items (which was purchased duing times when I seemed to have a lot more disposable income).
So over the coming weeks/months I'll be listing a range of 1st Editions, Author signed novels and memorabilia, Limited print runs, rare / obscure books and manusscrips and my personal favourite, 'Uncorrected Proofs (ARCs) (which I still cant see the logic of being less sought-afterthan 1st editions considering that they have much more scarcity and in 20 years I havent managed to find and complete a full collections of 'Proofs' of any single author.
The novels won't exactly result in calls from Sotheby’s but it is a pretty decent collection with a number of good finds.
For most of the higher valued items, I can provide certificates of authenticity as well as various other forms of provenance, but for many duplicates or books thag I had aquired for much lower amounts I didn't feel it's worth spending 10%-20% of the books purchase price on physical authentication. As most amateur books collectors know, that after a while you get pretty good a spotting the difference between the real thing and a forgery (or at least one becomes arrogant enough to believe that you can).
Saying that, I am open to doing so if need be, especially for books where the value has increased, specific authors where there seem to be a lot of fakes in the market and for repeat customers.
I'm also open to offer below my proposed price and especially offer exceeding what I think the books are worth.
I'm also open to trades or reduced prices for multiple purchases.. so please donnot hesitate to ask if you’re after something specific or interested in a certain author/s... Since I've realised that the process of
- deciding what to sell,
- taking photos,
- writing a good description that includes pointing out what to look out for and what to avoid, and ideally add credible reference links to show that Im not just making it up, takes a lot longer than one may have anticipated, so until everything has been uploaded.. ask away.
Also let me know if you suspect any fakes or forgeries. Aa mentioned I have some serious culling to do and the last thing I want is for a review after my 10th sale that I've sold a fake book to someone at a ridiculous price... that's going to seriously derail my culling process... which thinking about it now, may not be the worst thing (for me personally at least, if not a happy and peaceful home).
