Fits and works just like it's supposed to!

4 of 4 found this helpful A quality piece of British engineering, when metal was used universally for functional items and plastic was for toys from Hong Kong! Considering it was manufactured over 50 years ago, it still cuts the grass well, doesn't jam and the paint is still attached to the parts it's supposed to be.
Compared with modern equivalents I'm sure it will outlast them all. It is tough and substantial, offers a complimentary workout with every use and puts an nice stripe to the grass. It boasts proper ball bearings on the cylinder cutter spindle and drum and real nylon bushes on the front roller. It is provided with an easily accessible means of adjustment for the drive chain, built to last and be maintained over a considerable length of service, It is assembled using good old Imperial sized fasteners designed to be tightened using tools made of proper materials, not some cheap stampings from a far away country.
I'd recommend it as a fine alternative to modern equivalents, if, by some miracle, you manage to wear it out in your lifetime it'll still be worth a decent scrap value, but as this is unlikely anyway, it'll provide your offspring with a usable heirloom at your demise.

Great for the Rally Field!
In my case used on the rear of a daily commuter, vintage sidecar outfit that gets used a lot at steam/vintage transport rallies at the weekends. An unusual choice maybe, but works well for me.
Provides excellent grip on what can be very churned up rally fields, and wet grassy slopes where with a laden sidecar outfit standard or sidecar-specific road tyres have often provided no grip whatsoever.
Tread pattern clears clogged mud readily but tread blocks are not so widely spaced as to be vibratory on normal roads. Tyre does not appear to particularly lose grip on tarmac roads in normal all-year-round commuting and is very good on snow covered roads during winter.
I've been using these tyres now for a number of years now and they seem to last around a year, or 5000-6000 miles on average before reaching the legal tread depth limit. They do appear to wear quite rapidly when getting close to this limit, up until then they appear to wear quite well.
Sidewalls are reasonably flexible, but not to the extent the bike wallows all over the place. I've no idea how they perform as a proper trials tyre but think they'd make an excellent choice for a trail or green lane bike.
