A CD which will be a real treat for lovers of the symphonic organs of Arisitide Cavaillé-Coll

Only buy this CD if you truly love the immense power of a Cavaillé-Coll symphonic organ!! The music is exactly what you want for an organ of this type and size, and Gerard Brooks' playing is first-rate, as one would expect. The recording is probably as good as you could get given the huge dynamic range of the instrument; it must be nigh-impossible to do it full justice. Personally, I found the disc simply overpowering, and after about 20 minutes I could take no more. The 'glory' of these instruments are the massive pedal 'bombardes', and the 'full organ' overwhelms the listener after a short while. An impressive organ without a shadow of a doubt, but for me 'a little goes a very long way', so play it in 'bite-size' portions - it may be more digestible.
