Overwatch: Beautiful, Overhyped, and underbalanced
5 of 36 found this helpful Many people at my work hyped this game hardcore for me, and to some extent I'm not dissapointed (because visually the game is beautiful). The game sold me completely after watching the awesome pixar style cinematics which blizzard used to advertise the game. However the game is 40+ dollars even though it has free-to-play style microtransactions, and no campaign. Had Nexon made this game instead of blizzard it would not have sold half as well, and would not have recieved half the hype or love that this game has.
Many characters are terribly unbalanced, the game has terrible rubberbanding issues, expect to have the servers go down mid match (It's happened to me 3 times so far with my whole party).
The net code isn't the greatest, as sometimes you will get somewhere safe just to have you die, and then when you watch the replay from the opponents perspective you hadn't made your way past that corner.
The game is mainly for Moba fans who want to play similar to a first person shooter. The game focuses very little on the shooting mechanics and lots on character abilities.
There are better Hero shooters out there, such as dirty bomb, but with that being said if your looking for a fun first person moba, and you don't mind a very stingy f2p model on a fullpriced game, then this game is for you! The style is fantastic, the balance and shooting mechanics not so much. I think I'll stick with Unreal, Doom, Counter-Strike when I feel like a shooter, and enjoy this with my friends when they ask me to come on.
I couldn't answer the question "Is the gameplay compelling" as that would be entirely subjective, but personally I'd say as a moba hybrid, sure, but as a shooter absolutely not.
