Not cheap, but worth it
Great little unit. Definitely on the high end of the price scale for a Gen1, but the CORE technology definitely makes a difference in performance. I think the price difference is worth it. Has the typical limitations of Gen1 NVG - needs a source of IR illumination or you aren't going to see anything, fish eye distortion (but less severe than other Gen1s I tried) however very clear in the center of the screen, no gain/brightness control, some minor imperfections in the tube (typical of Gen1), power supply makes a faint but noticeable whining noise. On the plus side, the construction is excellent, the optics are high quality and can be focused for a very crisp image in the center of the viewing area, lots of high quality accessories that integrate with the unit, compact size, very nice carry pouch included.
All in all, if you can't afford Gen2 but need something more than a "toy," I wouldn't waste your time or money on the cheaper Gen1 NVGs and go for this one.

Great DAP with lots of features. Solid first generation product.
A great little DAP. I was a bit nervous about it being a first generation product, and I heard some stories about other people receiving units with bad screens, but mine turned out to be perfect. Construction quality seems to be first-rate. The interface is very fast and operates without any lag at all. I have about 23,000 FLAC songs loaded on a 400GB SD card (SanDisk) and the M9 handles it easily - but the initial scan time took a while - about 40 minutes or so. After that, looking up and playing songs happen as fast as I can operate the system. Sound quality is great and the amp has plenty of power to drive my ZMF planar headphones. Streaming with Spotify works just fine. I had some problem keeping a stable wifi connection at my office (where some security protocols were implemented) but it was fine at my home. Then I upgraded the firmware to 1.0.2 and wifi now works fine everywhere. So I have faith that my M9 will get better and better as Fiio works out the kinks and issues software upgrades. Overall, the M9 seems to be a really good DAP and an excellent value.

A nice upgrade for the Ridgeline
Works perfectly with my 2019 Ridgeline - just like what other people have said online. Installation seems a bit drastic since you need to completely remove the glovebox and take the dash trim off, but it wasn't actually too bad. Took me about 1/2 hour to install.
