Decent and fulfilling.
The game starts you with six characters: Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, Kakashi, Shikamaru, and Rock Lee. You have two modes which have objectives: Mission mode (which includes training to S-rank missions) and Scenario mode which follows through the story with its respective character. Everything else is just a filler (you should be used to fillers if you've watched the anime, haha) in the game; the fillers being collectibles, secret scrolls, options, etc. Now for the mechanics: The game can be a breeze or it can be relentless. The AI/CPU is a little smarter than the average fighting games. Playing hard mode off the bat will leave you asking what the heck you did wrong, and playing easy will give you a little more time to adjust to the fighting style of the game. You have a set amount of combos and can be accessed through the paused menu. You have Gauge attacks which are activated by having the right amount of Chakra and preforming the necessary button combo. You're able to throw shurikens or kunais, and a numerous amount of power up(down) items. You can use support moves that the character comes with. It usually includes a character from the series (an obvious one at that) that has, in one way or another, helped the character being supported. My Opinion: As a first time player of the UN series, I can honestly say that the game took me for a trip (through nostalgia too!) It's a perfect game to start with as it pertains to the very beginning of the story line of the manga/anime. You can work towards new characters, levels, and achievements while also broadening your skills. As a fighting game, I wouldn't recommended it to action junkies for one reason- It lacks substance. It depends too much on the anime to push the story along, and missions can be traced right back to the anime. You're basically the puppet master of the show. There's better fighting games out there, but this one is a little more eye-catching because of its cel-shaded design. Bottom line: Get it if you're a Naruto enthusiast. Leave it if you're not. Simple as that.
