Canon EOS350D
The EOS 350D I bought on eBay had, rather unfortunately, a pronounced rattle (it had been dropped once too often I think). The seller promptly refunded me and I returned it, but not before taking a few pictures and I was so impressed that I actually went in search of a new one.
I use the point & poke settings to get the feel of the camera and then tried several picture modes before experimenting with the full manual options, one of the pictures I took within an hour of picking up the 350D is, I think, the best photo I have ever taken. The 18-55 lens takes some flak from camera professionals but I found it to be razor sharp - even wide open.
When I could not find a 350 new I ended up buying a 450 which uses the same lit lens, it has a few more pixels and also benefits from a live-view option although you cannot use some features in live mode (like autofocus).
The 350D is THE best entry level DSLR and sets the standard for the rest to follow, the later models from Canon add only a few more features.

Perfect
Exactly what it says on the box and a fraction of the price some are charging for similar items. Don't expect orchestral ensembles though, most of the tunes are rubbish, works just great on the basic doorbell sound !
