Necessary Item
The single battery that comes with the boat lasts about 6 minutes of full throttle boating. You have to have AC power at the lake and wait between 2 and 3 hours for the included charger to get the battery recharged. It works much better to have some spare batteries and just wait a few minutes for the motor to cool, put in a fresh battery and off you go again.

Spare battery
I purchased the FT009 RC boat for a little variety when flying my RC float planes at our weekly float fly sessions at a local lake. The original equipment battery will run the boat about 6 minutes at full throttle, but I wanted to be able to do multiple runs without waiting 2 hours or more to recharge with the AC charger that comes with it. I bought extra batteries and have them all charged when I arrive at the lake. This works well and the extra batteries are just as good as the original.

Spare rudder
These parts are handy to have around, especially if you hit a rock or some other submerged object and damage the rudder. I also used them to experiment with rudder modifications to see if I could get improved turning performance.
