Lunasa's first great album is certainly not their least
This, the first Lunasa album, was recorded before the departure of flautist Michael McGoldrick and Uilleann piper John McSherry, both brilliant musicians. BBC Young Tradition Award winner Michael McGoldrick went on to join Capercallie and has played with numerous other bands. A third member, Donogh Hennessy, has since left, leaving only Sean Smyth and Trevor Hutchinson from this CD in the current lineup. Lunasa have always been an amazing band live (as are both McGoldrick and McSherry in their subsequent bands) and this was recorded mainly live. The copy I bought was the later version of this CD on Compass Records. The studio version of the famous pipe tune Colonel Frazier (which they have called Mean Fuhhair) on the original has been replaced by a superb live version, which has stunning playing by McGoldrick and McSherry, and an extra live track, The Jacky Molard's & The Hunter's Purse has been added. What sets Lunasa apart from most other Irish traditional bands is the double bass of ex Waterboy Trevor Hutchinson, which together with the band's instumental prowess, gives their music real bite and drive but without being over dominant. Although their music is based in the Irish tradition and always has an Irish flavour, many of the tunes are not Irish, originating from Brittany, Cape Breton (in Canada), Scotland etc., and there is even a klezmer tune. This gives this CD far more interest and variety than your average Irish traditional music album. There are no week tunes on this CD (there are no songs, Lunasa are an instumental band). I could go on about the individual tracks but the best way to discover them is to listen to this album yourself! This album maybe Lunasa's first but it is by no means their least and with the presence of Michael McGoldrick and John McSherry, who are missing from their later albums, this CD is a must for all fans of Lunasa and Irish/traditional music. Go out and buy it or better still, go to one of their live gigs!

Good value and does the job
I bought this to have 2 sets of filters to enable one set to be in the vacuum and allow it to continue to be used, whilst the other set is waiting to be cleaned. This set is not an official Hoover part but appears identical. Good value and does the job.

A great discovery
I am really pleased with this CD which I paid very little for. Becky Mills is a folk singer who was previously unknown to me although she was in Walking the Witch who I have heard. I would definitely recommend this album and would like to hear more of her. She is a very good singer. The songs are well written and beautifully arranged, always tuneful and melodic with enough variation to keep up the interest. The backing musicians (who include Ashley Hutchins) do a great job. Definitely recommended.
