Reinstilled my faith in Quantaray.
This is a great lense, and the price makes it even better. A large (72mm filter size) front element lets in a good ammount of light and creates a beautiful depth, however, the length makes it near impossible to hand hold shots at the wide end. The quality is much more solid than any Pentax kit lens you'll see, and much better than past Quantaray lenses I've used. I am extremely pleased with the quality of this build. The pentax screw-type auto focus is slowed down considerably on a lens with a range like this one, and it can be thrown off in low light situations, and that is my only complaint. As far as zoom lenses go, this piece takes very sharp images.

Finepix s2940 - the bargain hunters camera
The Fujifilm Finepix s2940 (and the 2950 - they're the exact same camera except the 2940 is only sold at Wal-Mart) are very decent cameras for the price. I have found this camera to produce acceptable images at up to 8x10 size when used in manual mode with studio lighting. This camera really shines in good, natural light, and I have been able to capture some great landscapes and candid portraits. This camera does not have manual focus, and the aperture settings are very, very slim, so if you're going to step out of auto mode and try to get creative, you're better off looking for a camera with a manual focus. The auto feature does a good job of capturing your images, and the portrait feature is great for photos of your friends in an outdoor environment. The battery life is above average, I have spent days shooting on the same set of rechargeable batteries. You get about two to three days from a set of non-rechargeables. To get maximum battery life, you have to change the battery setting in the menu to match the type you are using at the time. This camera can be a good camera, but if you're not prepared to either read the manual or spend a few days testing out settings, you would be better off choosing a different camera. The MSRP on this camera is a bit high, and I would strongly suggest passing it up if you're looking at it new in a store, however, if you have a chance to pick one up used it is a good buy. I would recommend this camera to bargain hunters and price sticklers, as this camera's value is tied to it's price.

A durable, fun lens for your adventures.
I took a chance and bought this lens used, so I'm not sure if the aberrations I see on the lense are from the previous owner or just the way the lens is. I am using this lense on a Pentax K-X and I am in love with it. The lens is a bit heavy compared to similar focal length Pentax lenses, but I really like the heavy lens feel, it balances out the weight the camera has with AA batteries. The aperture ring has a decent range, and an 'A' setting, which makes it function perfectly on an SLR as well as DSLR. The lens is manual focus only, so it's important that the focus ring moves smoothly and this lens does not disappoint. I can dial in perfect focus in seconds, and focus is held until I change it, the perfect ammount of tension even on a beat-up used lens! At the lower aperture settings this lens does a gorgeous job of keeping JUST the subject focused and beautifully softens the background. I have used this lens at the longest focal length hand-held with great results. This lens can take a beating too! I carry my camera with me everywhere I go, this lens hasn't been in a bag since I bought it and it's still in gorgeous condition. Not a flimsy piece of glass at all. The only complaint I have with this lens is the optic quality isn't as sharp as it could be, but the imperfections I notice through my viewfinder don't seem to show up in actual images. I really love this lens, it gives a great creative feel to images at lower apertures, and a crisp look at the higher end. This lens produces good images even hand-held which makes it a great lens to take on adventures.
