Ratatouille Special Edition (DVD)
Purchased after renting the film because I had to have it for my collection where it will be watched again and again. Quite simply this is the most beautiful computer-animation made to date. The real star is Paris which looks stunning in the re-creation. Although allegedly set in the present, cars etc are all 1960s/1970s giving the film an authentic retro-look. The other characters, rats and humans, give brilliant support. The story is thoughtful and touching, maybe a bit "adult" for smaller children, but they will love the action. The cast of voices is superb, especially Peter o'Toole as restaurant critic Anton Ego, and Ian Holm as the villainous chef Skinner. The delight is all in the detail Brad Bird's team have put in - a fleeting expression or similar "throw away" which demonstrate the loving care which was put into the work - not unlike the productions of Aardman.
The supporting disk has a splendid array of behind the scenes "extras".

An excellent adaptation of a splendid book but it's a shame more wasn't filmed in Guernsey.
1 of 1 found this helpful An enchanting story of interesting and sympathetic characters, combined with a mystery, set during the German Occupation of Guernsey. A good screenplay from the best-selling novel, a splendid cast and good chemistry between the romantic leads. Very enjoyable.
The only thing against it is that it was not filmed in Guernsey and sadly looks nothing like Guernsey. Unfortunately the island has changed too much since the 1940s. A few inserted shots of Guernsey help somewhat but it could have used a few more. However this does not spoil a very good film.
