Inexpensive and it works
An external battery means it isn't as convenient as some, but the added frequency range over most similar testers means it is good for a wider range of items. In my case a key for a imported car.
Decent construction, works well. Range is limited to within 1cm of the pad at most so it doesn't give much indication of signal strength, but the point is that it is inexpensive and it works.
