There was no shipping charge and the item arrived in a sturdy box; however, there should have been a bit more internal padding/packing material, because the item clearly shifted within the box -- indeed, this item has a 6"x14" glass filter that came loose, but thankfully did not break. I would have had to remove the filter anyway to renew the surface polish, so no ultimate harm.
