Pool Ladders & Steps

Pool Ladders & Steps

Pool ladders and steps are used with all types of swimming pools to give the swimmer a safe entry and exit.

Different types of steps are used for above-ground and in-ground poolsand can be made from resin, plastic or metal.

  • Above-ground pool ladders - steps designed for above-ground pools go up either side, meeting in the middle with a wider  top step. They consist of two sets of steps, of which one set goes up the outside of the pool and the other set goes into the pool
  • In-ground ladders - in-ground pools are built from a hole dug or cut in land or decking and have specifically designed ladders for entry and exit. These ladders attach to the ground above the pool, at its rim, and then curve out and downwards into the pool. In-ground pools are commonly made from stainless steel or resin

Features of Pool Ladders

  • Pool ladders and steps come in a variety of sizes, so most pool heights or depths should be catered for
  • They usually have 2, 3 or 4 steps, with spacing between the steps varying dependant on the design
  • Some pool ladders have removable steps that can be stored away easily when not in use, allowing parents to ensure that the kids (or pets) don’t go for unscheduled dips. Removable steps can be easier to clean as they’re less awkward to manoeuvre
  • Almost all pool ladders come with safety barriers and/or handrails to keep you and family safe when you enter and exit your pool

Pool Slides

Pool slides are used on above-ground pools and feature a set of steps going up the outside wall and, in place of steps, a slide that transports you into the pool.

These are usually enjoyed by children but some are suitable for adult use if desired.

Cleaning your pool steps

Cleaning your pool steps, ladders and slides is essential. Stainless steel ladders (used in most in-ground pools) should be washed each day using fresh water.

Always rinse and wipe the ladder before cleaning with glass or stainless steel cleaner to ensure chemical build-ups are removed effectively.

Most other types of ladder, such as those made from resins, can be rinsed and cleaned with warm, soapy water and disinfectant if required.
