  • A Rare Welch-Type Brass Microscope Lamp By R & J Beck , London

This is a very rare microscope lamp based around the design of Welch. The illumination is provided by an electric lamp (bulb missing) in a cylindrical brass tube which is directed via a glass rod running inside a brass tube. At the end of the tube is a iris diaphragm. A glass trough is held in place to act as a cooler for the ray of light. A colour can be added to the liquid for monochromatic light. A further condenser on a swing out arm completes the optical system. The lamp support has many mechanical adjustments allowing for focus tilt and elevation. All of this is supported on a heavy lead filled base. I have many Beck catalogues covering many years of production. I have not been able to find this lamp in any of them.
