Tamron Camera Lens Hood

Designed to help improve the quality of your photos and protect your camera lens , generally your images will have richer saturation and deeper colours if you use a lens hood.

A Tamron camera lens hood is especially useful if you're using a wide-angle or telephoto lens.

Lens hood benefits - improved image quality

Lens hoods help to block out unwanted light that could potentially ruin your pictures. They are especially useful if you're shooting towards the light when lens flare can often be a problem.

Lens flare can create two problems for photographers. The first is reduced image contrast, where more light enters the lens, which creates a haze that reduces the definition between the subject and the background.

A second issue created by lens flare is 'ghosts' or 'halos' that may appear in your image. These are light green, orange or yellow speckles of light that may obscure part of the image. In some situations lens flare might enhance your picture, but often it will detract from the image you're photographing.

Lens hood benefits - protecting your lens

The other main benefit of using a lens hood is that it provides your lens with additional protection. This could simply mean preventing touch marks or fingerprints on the lens, or more serious issues like scratches.

Some photographers argue that lens hoods are an unnecessary expense. However, if you've invested costly camera equipment, the price of a lens hood is a fraction of what you will have paid for your kit.

Different types of lens hoods

Lens hoods come in two different shapes - round or petal shaped . They also come in different depths depending on the type of lens you'll be using them with.

Lens hoods are produced for specific lenses, so it's important to ensure that the hood you are buying is compatible with the lens that you will be using it with.

Lens hoods are made of plastic, metal or rubber. Plastic and metal hoods are sturdier and will provide more protection for your lens, however rubber hoods are popular with some photographers as they are lighter. Their flexible shape also means they take up less space in your camera bag.
