The famous Handpan
Handpans, also known as steel tongue drums or tank drums, were first introduced to the musical world in the year 2000 when a Swiss musical company named PANArt Hangbau AG wanted to create a sound reminiscent of the steelpan drums from Trinidad & Tobago. Ever since, this instrument has been sought after by most artists, especially those seeking a unique sound.
Aesthetically pleasing
Each handpan is unique in its own way to represent the individuality of each player. Also referred to as a steel tongue drum, it is usually and almost primarily formed of metal half-shells glued together, creating the unique and desired noise of this instrument.
Each pan has the capacity to look unique, some having a pattern on it hand-painted onto the carefully formed the half-shells, ranging from marble effects to a galaxy design pattern. If you want to opt for a more simplistic design, the pan is available in multiple colours like gold, black, silver and red. Handpan cases are also available so you can take the portable instrument with you in style and safety.
Musically pleasing
Each handpan is manufactured with a unique sound to that individual one only, with one to 16 different tones, multiple pitch possibilities and different instrument imitations. Pitch ranges vary from F minor, B Celtic minor, C major and many, many more. Replicate the sound of instruments such as the harp, bells or tuned steelpans with unique playing methods to allow for a unique sound. With all these features combined, you can play a different type of music every day with the handpan, giving you the creative and musical freedom that true artists deserve.
The handpan can be played with either your hands as intended, or with drum mallets, allowing you further control and difference between each play.
Due to the many soothing sounds of the handpan, many yoga and meditation gurus use the relaxing musical notes from the instrument to help induce a calming effect on themselves and other people around them.
