How to choose the right perch

  • Practicality – your feathery friend spends his whole life standing or flying. When perched inside a cage it’s important to ensure that your bird has the comfort it needs
  • Flexibility – a variety of platforms to sit on are ideal for any species of bird. Rigid and flexible perches allow for a choice in sitting positions, and space for physical movement
  • Hard – durable plastic and hardwood perches are easy to clean
  • Soft – the preferred choice for larger birds like lovebirds, parrots and parakeets

Different types of bird perch

  • Traditional – a traditional style bird perch is made from hardwood dowel. These are easy to clean and to replace
  • Rope – offers flexibility of movement for your bird. Twisted rope perches are available in a variety of thicknesses
  • Natural wood – most birds love natural branches because they can sit on the perch and enjoy stripping the bark with their beak.
  • Plastic – hardwearing plastic perches usually twist fix to the cage mesh. This gives your bird a solid grip place to sit
  • Swing – perches that swing typically have a metal frame with a contoured plastic dowel
  • Freestanding - mostly made from wrought iron and metal, and feature a wooden perch with ladder and feeding bowls attached.

Larger birds that require more space may need a freestanding bird stand
