Managed payments helps sellers streamline their business on eBay, and simplifies the end-to-end experience for both buyers and sellers. As a managed payments seller, you'll have everything you need to sell and get paid, with reports, fees, protections, and support all in one place. Your buyers will have more ways to pay, and you'll receive your payouts in your bank account.
Here's how it works:
- A buyer purchases one of your items.
- eBay manages the payment transaction.
- You receive the payouts in your bank account, with no need to transfer funds between accounts.
What you need to register
Your linked bank account must be a payment, current or business account. It can’t be a savings account.
Accepted payment methods
Your buyers can choose from any of the following payment methods:
- American Express
- Apple Pay (through the eBay app and eBay’s mobile website only)
- Google Pay (through the eBay app, eBay's mobile website, and desktop)
These will automatically be added to your listings and show up as payment options at checkout.
With managed payments, you’ll receive your payouts in your chosen bank account, regardless of which payment method your buyer chooses. If a hold is placed on your payment, there may be a delay in your payout. Additionally, there are a number of reports which all sellers can download to help reconcile your eBay sales transactions.
Domestic and international listings
Once your account is activated for managed payments, your existing eBay listings will be set up for managed payments. Learn more about this process in our article on Updating your listings for managed payments.
As a managed payments seller you can choose to sell internationally. If you do not want to manage the international transaction yourself, you can choose to ship internationally using our Global Shipping Programme, which takes care of customs, taxes, and import/export fees.
All sellers must follow the guidelines in our Prohibited and restricted items policy. Managed payments sellers have some additional restrictions on what they can list on eBay. Listings for any restricted items will be automatically ended and added to your unsold folder.
Listings that don't follow eBay's rules may be removed from the site or from search results.
Orders and postage
You should post as soon as you see the "Awaiting dispatch" status on the Manage Orders - opens in new window or tab page in Seller Hub, or "Dispatch Now" in My eBay, even if you haven't received payment to your bank account. Don't worry, we'll only display this status once we've confirmed the buyer's payment.
There are no changes to postage labels. If you use a third-party postage platform or are managing labels on your own, you may continue to do so. If you wish to purchase labels through eBay, you can print postage using eBay Delivery powered by Packlink. You can pay for labels as you use them, or you can choose to pay on invoice.
eBay for Charity
Sellers registered for managed payments on eBay.co.uk can now donate a portion of their sales to registered eBay charities. You can donate between 10%-100% of a sale, and eBay will credit an equal percentage of fees. Additionally, UK charities that sell directly on eBay are eligible to register for managed payments. You can issue full or partial refunds to your buyers up to 90 days after the original transaction. To learn more about the refund process and where the funds come from, see Refunding buyers as a managed payments seller.
For most claims and returns, our eBay Money Back Guarantee Policy will apply to managed payments sellers. However, your buyer may ask their financial institution to open a payment dispute if they believe there’s an issue with their order. Any refunds, chargebacks, or claims for PayPal transactions from before you changed to managed payments will continue to be handled through PayPal.
Registering for managed payments
If you are eligible and have not already registered, your invitation to managed payments should be in your email inbox, where you’ll find a link to register for the programme.
If your account becomes eligible to be activated for managed payments, eBay may send you an email requesting you to complete managed payments registration by a specific date. If you were sent this email, and you have not completed registration by the date specified, eBay reserves the right to start to restrict your ability to list, including, without limitation, restricting new listings, restricting changes to existing listings, or ending listings. Restrictions would apply no earlier than 30 days following the date of the email.
After you register
After you register, we’ll begin to activate your account for managed payments, which can take between a few hours and a few months to complete as we roll out the managed payments program. Before your account is fully activated for managed payments, we’ll notify you by email, and send you information in advance to prepare your business for the change. Until then, you can continue doing business as usual on eBay. We may also contact you if we need to further validate any information.
Your existing eBay listings will automatically be set up for managed payments, and you won’t need to make any changes to them.
If you use third-party tools to help manage your listings, inventory, finances, or refunds, there should be no change in how you use those tools when you are activated for managed payments.
