Fees for business sellers

We charge two main types of fees when you sell on eBay – fees when you create your listing (for example, listing fees and listing upgrade fees), and transaction fees when your item sells (final value fees, regulatory operating fee and international fee, if applicable).

Last updated on 1 September, 2024

When you list an item for sale on eBay, we charge a fee per listing. Listing fees are non-refundable, even if your item doesn't sell. The amount you're charged per listing depends on whether or not you have a Shop subscription, and the level of Shop you subscribe to if you do have a subscription.

Listing and optional listing upgrade fees also apply each month for Good 'Til Cancelled listings and every time you relist an item.

Shop subscription benefits and fees

You don't need to have a Shop subscription to sell as a business on eBay. However, an eBay Shop can help you reach the right customers, manage orders and build your brand. Your buyers can learn about you and your business and can browse your items through a customisable shopfront, and you can benefit from reduced fees.

Other benefits of subscribing to a Shop on eBay.co.uk include:

  • A free monthly allowance of fixed price and auction-style listings. See the table below to see how many you receive based on the package you choose
  • Access to eBay marketing tools including Seller Hub Promotions - opens in new window or tab, Promote your listings and customisable email campaigns
  • A customisable shopfront and a unique URL that you can use in your marketing
  • If you subscribe to a Featured or Anchor Shop you'll also get:
  • Anchor Shop subscribers also receive an invitation to eBay Concierge, an enhanced level of service to make selling easier

Subscribe to an eBay Shop now - opens in new window or tab

When you open an eBay Shop, you'll choose a Shop package: Basic, Featured or Anchor. The package that's right for you will depend on the volume you sell and how you plan to grow your business.

Fees for optional listing upgrades

Certain features, like adding a subtitle, do incur an additional fee, but these optional listing upgrades can help your listing stand out and attract more buyers.

We charge optional listing upgrade fees per listing regardless of whether your item sells, and they're not included in your allocation of free listings

Upgrade Description Upgrade fee per listing

Reserve Price

Set a reserve price (minimum £50) and your item won't be sold if bids don't reach that amount. It gives you the peace of mind that your item won't be sold for less than you're willing to sell it for.

4% of the reserve price (max. £150 per item), whether or not the item sells

Buy it now price

Give your buyers the option to purchase before an auction-style listing ends, for a set price. A Buy it now price gives you the possibility of a quick sale for the right money.

Free

Subtitle

Make your item stand out from the crowd with a line of additional text that appears beneath your listing title in search results.

International Site Visibility

Maximise your item's visibility in search results on eBay.com and eBay.ca. If your listing is eligible for this upgrade and not already appearing on these sites, you'll have the option to add it on as part of the listing experience. Make sure you've specified postage options for the US and Canada so buyers will know what international P&P will cost.

25p for Fixed Price listings For auction-style listings the fee depends on the start price:

  • 4p for start price less than £5
  • 8p for start price from £5 to £29.99
  • 13p for start price of £30 or more

Final value fees

You pay one final value fee for items you sell on eBay, and you don't have to worry about third party payment processing fees.

The final value fee is calculated as a variable percentage of the total amount of the sale (which includes the item price, postage, and any applicable taxes), plus a fixed charge of 30p per order. See the table below for the variable percentages by category. An order is defined as any number of items purchased by the same buyer at checkout with the same shipment method. Your final value fees are automatically deducted from your sales proceeds and the rest paid out to your bank account.

See our table below for a list of final value fees by category and any exceptions that apply.

Exceptions to how we calculate the final value fee on postage

For Trainers sold through Authenticity Guarantee with a free postage label provided to you, eBay collects a flat postage charge from the buyer but there is no final value fee charged on postage.

If your item doesn't sell you usually don't pay a final value fee. However, if you offer or reference your contact information to another user or ask a buyer for their contact information, in the context of buying or selling outside of eBay, we'll charge a final value fee for introducing you to the buyer. In this case, the final value fee is calculated as a percentage based on the higher of the fixed price, auction start price, Buy it now price, Reserve price or the price identified between the buyer and seller.

If you need to refund the buyer or cancel the sale, you may be eligible for fee credits as per our fee credits policy.

For items that have been listed in two categories, the higher of the two final value fees will be charged. For example, if you've listed an item in both the Music category (which has a 9.9% + 30p final value fee) and the Musical Instruments & DJ Equipment category (which has a 10.9% + 30p final value fee), when it sells you'll be charged the higher 10.9% final value fee.

Sellers whose performance level is Below Standard on the 20th of a month incur an additional 6 percentage points fee on top of the final value fee on sales in the following calendar month. For example, a 9.9% +30p final value fee would increase to 15.9% + 30p. The additional fee applies to the total amount of the sale. Above Standard and eBay Top-rated Sellers are not impacted by this additional fee.

For opened "Item not as described" requests, sellers are assessed compared to their peers in the service metrics dashboard in Seller Hub. Sellers with "Very high" rates of "Item not as described" requests opened against them in the evaluation on the 20th of a month will incur an additional 4 percentage points fee on top of the final value fees applicable to sales on the relevant eBay sites and categories during the following calendar month. For example, a final value fee in the affected eBay sites and categories would increase from 8.9% + 30p to 12.9% + 30p. If a seller is rated "Very high" in a category, but has fewer than 10 such requests opened against them or their "Item not as described" rate is under 1% in a specific category during the evaluation period, they will not be subject to this increased fee.

Reduced fixed order fee
The fixed order fee will be reduced from 30p to 10p for orders with a total sales price of up to £10 in the following circumstances:

Regulatory operating fee

When your item sells, we charge a regulatory operating fee of 0.35%, calculated on the total amount of the sale. The total amount of the sale includes the item price, postage, and any applicable taxes.

International fee

If your registered address is in the UK, we charge an international fee when the delivery address for the item (entered by the buyer during checkout) is outside the UK, as shown in the table below.

This fee is calculated on the total amount of the sale and is automatically deducted from your sales proceeds. The total amount of the sale includes the item price, any handling charges, postage, and any applicable taxes.

Premium Service listings

If you are an eBay Top-rated Seller, you receive the benefit of a 10% discount on final value fees for Premium Service listings on eBay.co.uk. The 10% discount applies to the variable portion of the final value fee for your Premium Service listings, but does not apply to the 30p per order fixed fee.

Read our Seller levels and performance standards article for more information about eBay Premium Service.

Fees for promoting your listings

To give greater exposure to the items you sell, you can create a promoted listing ad campaign. Promoted Listings fees vary depending on the campaign type you select. You'll either be charged per ad click, a chosen percentage after your listing sells, or an upfront, flat fee. Promoted Listings is available to Above standard and Top rated sellers with recent sales activity. Learn more about our Promoted Listings Terms of Service - opens in new window or tab.

When you are found responsible for a chargeback or other disputed amount as per eBay's policies, we charge a £14 dispute fee for each dispute.

Seller currency conversion charge

When you create listings or sell items on an international eBay site, eBay may convert your funds to a different currency in order to collect amounts owed by you to eBay, or to payout funds due to you.

For example, if your registered address is in the UK and you create a listing on eBay.de for which fees are due (such as listing and/or optional listing upgrade fees), eBay will convert your funds from GBP to EUR using the transaction exchange rate applicable at the time of listing, in order to collect these fees. When the item sells on eBay.de, eBay will calculate your payout amount by converting the sales proceeds from EUR to GBP using the transaction exchange rate applicable at the time of the sale.

If eBay converts your funds, the conversion will be completed at the transaction exchange rate we set for the relevant currency exchange. eBay's transaction exchange rate is composed of a base exchange rate plus a conversion charge. The conversion charge is a fixed percentage applied to the base exchange rate and retained by eBay. The base exchange rate reflects rates within the wholesale currency markets applicable to the currency pairing on the day of the conversion, or the prior business day. If exchange rates are set by law or regulation, the base exchange rate reflects the government reference rates.

If your registered address is in the UK, the seller currency conversion charge applied and retained by eBay is 2.5%. If your registered address is not in the UK, please refer to the fee page for your country or region of residence for your seller currency conversion charge information.

This charge is levied by eBay Commerce UK Ltd in connection with your use of managed payments.
