Rolls Royce of Gaming Consoles Bridges Generational Gaps.

This is likely the Best Console yet, allowing for Flexability in Increasing HDD Size and Memorym Backwards Compatabilty with PS1 and PS2 Games (Where possible); and a host of Features that a Gamer would not be Intrested in such as Blu Ray and DVD Playback with teh added benefit to choose Online or Offline Gaming.

I do not know of anothr Console that permits such Flexability - a real shame that we are not seeing such Flexability either in Game Designs allowing for Stand Alone 2 Player Game Play or Consoles Cateing for Backwards Compatability.

The only let down is the way that we are being herded into Online Gaming for Multiplayer Optionsl but if you have yoru Playstation 1 and 2 Games - you still have the benefit of having Games that play like Games rather than having to follow the "Herd Mentality" of Isolation advanced by Online Only Multiplayer Games today.

The Best buy out there for simple Good Old fashioned Stand Alone Gaming with Flexibility that will last.

Fairly outdated

Although impressive for the time, this system is outdated by today's standards. The first generation model struggled to play graphicly intensive games without constant frame rate stutter and occasional freezing.
Some games did however perform well, and I did enjoy my time. But overall this was an unsatisfactory experience.

Sony Playstation PS3 - 60GB

This is the best model of PS3 by far to own. It has 4 USB ports on the front instead of the 2 on the standard models, meaning you can leave your Eye Camera, Microphones, Guitar Dongle and Play TV all plugged in at the same time without having to keep swapping between them all! The card readers are a bonus too, so you can easily transfer photo's and music to your hard-drive straight from the camera / phone to customise your desktop.

I've seen many 'YLOD' errors, but touching wood, my PS3 has been very reliable. It does run quite warm, but I hoover the ports at the side fairly regularly, and haven't had any problems even when playing COD for several hours at a time.
The only real down side is the HDD size. Whilst 60GB is plenty big enough if you are just gaming, but now you can download full games, and I use mine as a PVR to record TV using Play TV, the drive gets full quickly. I have bought a 500GB External Hard Drive to connect by USB (another reason for having the 4 USB ports!), but you will need to get it formatted to FAT32 for the PS3 to be able to recognise it, search You Tube for details of how to do that and you'll save money instead of buying a 'PS3' external drive already formatted.

The graphics are fantastic, and the machine looks sexy - it does show the dust quick though so be prepared to polish it now and then. The other plus side of the 60GB model is that it will play PS2 games. But to be honest, I hardly ever need that facility now as most of the PS3 games have better graphics, so its more a 'nice to have' rather than a 'must have' feature.

On-line gaming is awesome, better than the X-box as its 'Free'. As long as you keep the updates, which unless you're a real techy means you won't be able to run linux any more. They are adding features all the time as updates, and now you can play catch-up on TV with BBC and ITV i-players, as well as 4-OD. You can also down load 'rent or buy' HD movies from the Playstation Store or through LoveFilm.com. Play TV is great too for recording programmes you don't want to miss. However these features won't really be important if you have Sky or Cable digi-boxes to do that function already.

Anyway, if you're reading this review, you're probably already thinking about getting one, so stop thinking and start getting!

Enjoy!!!!!

Fun in a Black box!

The Playstation 3 60gb FAT is an excellent console choice with stunning visuals and graphics.
It is backwards compatable and will play most of your old Ps2 and Ps1 games, a feature which was
discontinued when the Ps3 Slim was released. You can play Music on Ps3 be it stored on the system via Mp3 upload through one of its 4 USB ports or you can play CD's on it as well even iPods though the storage media option. It will of course play Blu Rays and DVD's it will also upscale your DVD's to improve quality of the film you are watching.
There are literally thousands if games to choose from in Sonys library, some can even be downloaded straight to your hard drive which I think will be the way forward in future Playstation Console releases. Network gaming is great on the PSN network if you decide to join, you can also host your own challenges online, chat and cam if you have the right accessories or browse the web bringing the Internet to your tv, although personanally I feel the applications browsing software could be greatly improved but its not bad if you did not have option already available to you. You can also watch Tv I players on there too as well as streaming Movies through love film or Netflix, watch Music Videos or interact with other people on the PSN Home network.

The bad news... As this was a new generation console unlike its predecessor Ps2, the Ps3 had a lot of reliability issues which Sony had to address eventually and sort out, mainly hardware/software issues , some consoles overheating, Red Light Of Death, Yellow Light Of Death, electrical faults and the most common being the Blu Ray Drive or Blu Ray board. Earlier BR lasers were not very reliable and went after a few months which meant the user had to send it back to Sony for a replacement console or source parts and if they had the know-how, fix it themselves. This experience left a lot of fans of Sonys Gaming consoles dissapointed and angry which saw a shift of some gamers to Xbox and Wii camps.

That asides despite what I have told you, if you do get a hold of a good one you will not be dissapointed, I am on my second one and thoroughly enjoy it. If you are privvy enough to get hold of a good fully working Ps3 60gb then grab hold of it and get ready for fun! As Sony says 'The Game is just the start..'

Good working order and opinions

Its working very well and smoothly. Love playing my big collection of PS2 games on it in upscaled HD quality. This had arrived safely and came well packaged.

If you are after a PS3, then I would recommend looking for the 60GB Model and upgrade the HDD if you have massive library of PS3 games. Im glad I did. The 60GB will play all PLAYSTATION games, It has x4 USB slots for more devices to be plugged in at the same time ( if needed ), has built-in SD/Card readers for camera devices and slot for PSP SanDisk cards and has a chrome finish on the front and the PLAYSTATION 3 written on the top.

most of all, it has the best design shape.
Just be sure to clean it certain times per week in order to avoid dust build up and also stop the fans working too hard which leads to YLOD. Last but not least, keep it in a wide open space, well ventilated area ( away from other electronics that also produce heat )

60GB is the best PS3 system you'll get out of all the other later models.

PS3 Backward Compatible

These are great consoles and will rise in price and become limited availability. Someone mentioned you can't save ps1 or ps2. This is inaccurate. The console allows saves to be made directly to the harddrive and there are no limits on how many 'virtual' cards you can have. I own one and have saves for ps1 and ps2 games. You can download PS2 and PS1 games from the PSN network. Watch out for Flash sales. Cheap titles that are downloaded directly to your hard drive for keeps. Agreed regular maintenance is required to keep the machine running smoothly. Good ventilation is essential. Great console. Highly recommended.Read full review...

The best PS3 ever made.

The first Platstation 3 and by far the BEST. OK so the newer ones have a larger memory but they are not as well built and are not backwards compatable.

The console itself is robust and has a shiny black finish -easy to clean and looks stunning.

The graphics are amazing, especially if you use an HDMI cable on an HD TV. However, if like me you are not into war games, race games and the like (which most PS3 games are) you can still play you old favourites like Crash Bandicoot or Spyro.

Would I swap it for a new 1TB model? No way!

Well worth buying as a gaming and media console.

great product and from ebay paid less than a good Blue Ray player (of which the PS3 is a very good quality BlueRay and DVD player. Smart interface/GUI and good connections for several USB devices, fair disk space and like the BBC iPlayer and Lovefilm elements which are build into the systems software.

Game graphics are sharp and light-shade balance really good, smooth crystal clear resolution (on a good screen).
Network feature allows simple connection to other devices on the home network and streaming works a treat even over WiFi connection.

Highly recommend this Sony product.

PS3 60GB

The only model you need for a complete backwards compatible library if you own a PS5 you can now play pretty much everything playstation have to offer.

These particular models are rare now so are the 20GB launch edition Playstation 3's at the current time of writing this review they are currently going for over £150 in most second hand shops come back to this review in a few years and you'll find they more than likely have gone up in price.

The only thing I will say is that it can get dusty quite easy but that's the fun part because this model is easy to clean and it only takes about 10 minutes I highly recommend picking this 60GB or 20GB launch model up while you can as it won't be here forever and make sure you check the serial number ends in 03 because that's how you can tell it's Compatible with all playstation consoles preceding PS4.

The controller has a pretty good battery life on it and I will say that if you have options buy your discs physically for games instead of downloading them as it might take long.
