Standard 50mm primes lenes - next best lens & Sony FULL FRAME a850 a900 a99

lens is light and though not strictly true.. you "zoom" with your feet [where possible]. This has a benefit or often making you think about the subject more as you walk around the possible angles, shooting height and changing viewpoints.
Try it I think a standard fast lens should be EVERYONE'S NEXT lens after the kit lens they are usually "forced" to buy.
Admittedly many FULL FRAME are at a premium and you are often considering a body only option but now we have more full frame options my advise is SNAP UP these prime older lenses while they are still affordable :-)
There are eqivelents by Canon and Nikon in particular that may outperform the old Minolta lenses but I doubt you will ever produce an final image that you notioce the difference in ! I also doubt much from the Sony stable improves on these and if so it's at a price and top end Ziess, though even those have not proved to be as goosd as it gets across the wider apertures....
If you are Alpha full frame at least try one as soon as you can. Used on my Sony a850 it's a revelation and only lacks the ADI flash measuring contacts, which I hardly use anyway.
No doubt the same on a900 and a guess a99 though that translucent mirror may even "gain" a bit more by having a brighter view ?Read full review...

a 50mm lens at a great price

needed a standard lens for night time photography smaller and wider f stops can be used again a cracking lens for what i needed at a great price

This lens would be hard to beat for image quality especially for the price

Lovely 'nifty fifty' lens, very light to carry around, good to use in low light situations, delivers a very good clear, sharp image.
Excellent lens for the price.

A little care is needed to ensure no flare gets into lens as the lens hood is practically non existent.

I considered buying a new Sony 1.4mm lens but thought I would try the Minolta lens out first as there were several good write ups about it, I am very pleased with my decision and will stick with the Minolta, a great addition to my present lenses for my Sony A700.Read full review...

Bright, sharp, fast and cheap!!

I'm very happy with this lens. It's very sharp, with a nice bokeh and a fast focus. All these with a price tag of under 100 euros. It's bright, small in size and has a minimum focus of 0.45 meters.>
You should not buy this lens if you want to shoot in close quarters (unless you already possess a wider lens and you need this for portraits but still it's not very convenient). Also the focus ring is a bit small and needs some time to get used to it. It's handy in low light situations were the AF can not lock to a subject.

With the Sony A55 having a crop factor of x1.5 this lens behaves like a 75mm. It's ability to shoot in low light is good (not as good as the f/1.4 though) and considering the price tag it's an excellent buy!!Read full review...
